Does Cooking Something Change The Nutrition Facts?

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Say that I got some chicken and the nutrition facts said that it has 12g of fat. When I cook it does some of the fat get cooked off or is this how many grams are in it when it’s cook? Does anything else go down or up (protein, carbs, etc)?

I’m looking for nutrition facts for turkey meat. Not lunch meat that you buy at a deli, but actual white turkey meat like you serve on thanksgiving. Does anyone know? Thanks!

What Does It Mean When A Food Product Says It Has No Sugar, But Sugar Is Listed On The Nutrition Label?

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

Usually when I find food that claims that it is “sugar free,” I look on the nutrition label and find that it does have sugar in it. However, sugar (fructose, dextrose, glucose, corn syrup…etc) isnt listed in the ingredients. Does thIs mean the sugar on the nutrition label is reffering to natural sugar or added (processed) sugar?

Why Does One Type Of Cereal Have A Different Portion Size In Nutrition Info Than Another?

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

I noticed, while eating my cereal that the portion size in the Nutrition facts box was 1 1/2 cups, but then my kid’s cereal had a portion size of 3/4 cup. When I looked at another, it was 1 cup. Why is this? There must be guidelines for this, but I don’t know why or what they are. Is it more of an advertising thing so that it will make the nutrition facts look more appealing?
